You
Need Income - Youths Told
The Minister of State for Health, General Duties
Hon. Dr. Richard Nduhuura had told the youth in
Bushenyi that irrespective of their educational
levels, political affiliation or religious creed,
they need to start earning income of their own
to survive. Dr. Nduhuura made the remarks while
opening the workshop for Youth of Igara East and
West at the Multipurpose Hall. Bushenyi. "
To make income you ought to be armed with knowledge
and skills of how to generate income. Enterprise
Uganda was set up by the Government of Uganda
to exactly that."

2009, at the Multipurpose Hall.
Despite the abundant natural resources and opportunities
that exist in Bushenyi and western region, it
is argued that most people are still poor because
of their negative attitudes towards hard work
and self-employment as career options. The high
population growth in the district means each family
has on average 1 to 3 acres of land with the average
family size of 6 people. The traditional subsistence
agriculture with land fragmentation is now outdated
and the community needs to find innovate ways
of intensively and productively utilize the limited
land resource.
One of the most cited reason holding back people
from getting started in business is source of
capital. After attending the Enterprise Uganda
programme, most youth have defied this assumption
and gone ahead to start or expand their enterprises
without first going to a SACCO, Microfinance or
commercial bank for start-up capital. They have
relied mostly on the limited resources they already
have and the under-utilized resources around them
to get started their business.
Following the success of the Youth Empowerment
training in Kampala, Jonam County Nebbi District,
and Kashaari County in Mbarara district, Enterprise
Uganda was invited by the MPs for Igara West Hon.
Prof. Tarsis Kabwegeyere and Igara East, Hon.
Dr. Richard Nduhuura to sensitize the leaders
and youth in Bushenyi to develop positive attitudes
towards entrepreneurship and self-employment as
options for creating gainful employment for themselves. In
September 2009, Enterprise Uganda delivered the
5-day training to 564 Youth and their leaders
at the Multi-purpose Hall, in Bushenyi Town.
